About the Turtle

When I was young, my parents would call me a ‘turtle’ from time-to-time because I would slowly make my way to school, through stores and even a museum. Really much of life. My dawdling was less about wasting time than it was capturing the moment to be curious, explore and take it all in.

As I got older, I realized the turtle also related to my personality. I am an extremely expressive person. At times, this can prompt others to misinterpret some of my reactions. My body language and expressions can come off as closed or disgruntled when I am actually processing information or forming an opinion. After getting to know me, most people often tell me how approachable, caring and fun I am and that they can read me better.

In many cultures, the turtle is an important symbol. It can represent patience, wisdom and peace. So, just perhaps, Mom and Dad meant it as more of a compliment than I knew.
